My Thoughts on Selecting a Lawyer to Handle Your Motorcycle Accident Case.

California Biker and Motorcycle Accident Lawyer Norman Gregory Fernandez riding one of his motorcycles on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California. I have noticed many regular personal injury lawyers pawning themselves off as biker and motorcycle accident lawyers lately, and to be frank it really kind of rubs me the wrong way. There is nothing worse than a poser!

Most of these “regular” personal injury lawyers who are now advertising themselves as so-called biker and motorcycle accident lawyers do not know the difference between a petcock and a cappuccino at Starbucks. Yet there they are advertising in the Yellow Pages and on the Internet claiming to be Biker and Motorcycle accident experts. I beg to differ! A real biker or motorcyclist should be able to sift through the B.S. pretty fast.

The trouble for you is that if you pick the wrong lawyer to handle your motorcycle accident case, you simply will not get what you are entitled to with respect to compensatory damages, or you may get stuck paying the wrong lawyer a fee to get your motorcycle fixed!

I have said it before, and I will say it again; there exists a prejudice against bikers and motorcyclist not only amongst the general public, but also with respect to law enforcement officers, insurance companies, and potential jurors in your case.

If you select a lawyer that claims to be a biker and motorcycle accident lawyer, who is not equipped to deal with the prejudice against bikers, because they are not themselves bikers and motorcyclist, you will lose in the end!

I will tell you flat out that the vast majority, if not most of the guys advertising themselves as biker and motorcycle accident lawyers do not even ride motorcycles. The last time they were on a bike was probably in grade school and the bike had pedals, or when they rented a bicycle at the beach! These guys or gals have probably never been on a bike that has an engine! Is this the kind of joker that you want representing you in your motorcycle accident case? I think not.

If a lawyer you are looking at for representation in a motorcycle accident case claims to be biker and motorcycle accident lawyer, you may want to ask them if they have a valid California Motorcycle license endorsement, and when was the last time they rode a motorcycle. You may want to ask them if they own a motorcycle, and if not, when and if they ever owned a motorcycle! You get the drift. It is real easy to see if lawyers advertising themselves as biker and motorcycle accident lawyers are posers or the real thing.

Don’t be fooled by fancy ads in motorcycle rags, or on the internet. Check your lawyer out to make sure that they are the real deal, and not just a regular personal injury lawyer trying to pose and mislead you into thinking that they are real bikers and motorcycle accident lawyers.

As for me, I am the real deal. I am a real biker and a motorcycle accident lawyer. I talk the talk, and walk the walk. That is a picture of me riding one of my motorcycles in the upper left! I actually ride, and have ridden motorcycles for many years. To me this is not rocket science, this is what I do!

Good article - I agree wholeheartedly. There are many of what I refer to as "factory law firms" who take every personal injury case that comes their way - settle them out - frequently for far less than what they may have been worth had they been treated by a real motorcycle attorney. They make up in volume what they loose in quality. That, however, is a shame and disservice to the injured biker and their families.

I ride a Harley Dyna Low rider - to work every day - weather permitting - snowing today - sponsor motorcycle charities and am also a registered nurse.

I got into representing motorcycle accident victims when I was still in law school working as a nurse in the burn trauma unit at the U of Utah. As you know road rash is often treated as a dermal burn. Victims would come in and one way or another learn that I was an attorney and a biker and ask me to help them with their case.

I graduated law school and have focused my practice in the last two years on representing motorcycle accident victims. I know the medicine, I know what it is like to ride a bike and I know how to represent people in motorcycle accidents in negotiations with insurance companies or take them to trial. Sooooooo...

I agree with you - those attorneys who pawn themselves off as motorcycle attorneys often are not bikers themselves and know nothing about riding a bike - they do not really understand where the biker is coming from.

In my experience the injured biker just wants to get his bike fixed or written off - get his (or her) body fixed - get a fair shake for the pain and suffering and move on with their lives. By and large bikers are great to deal with - I have never met a biker I didn't like...

The UK's most profitable speed camera that has been sending $120 tickets to vehicle owners at the rate of 2000 per day may now be forced to issue refunds. The device, located on the southbound M11 at Woodford, Essex is situated at the point where the speed limit suddenly drops from 70 MPH to 50 MPH. Last month motorist Simon Grills forced the Crown Prosecution Service to drop his speed camera ticket after he proved the signs warning of the speed change were effectively invisible at night. Grills produced evidence showing the lights meant to illuminate the signs had been burned out since November 18, 2005. Grills had spent months fighting the ticket he received in September 2006.

"When I got flashed I couldn't work out how I'd missed the sign," Grills told the Sunday Mirror newspaper. "Then it clicked -- it's simply not visible at night."

The Mirror estimated that since the bulbs burned out at least 214,000 drivers had been trapped by the camera at night, generating ?13 million (US $26 million) in revenue.

The speed camera in question has been the center of controversy since it was first installed, inspiring one group to take its disagreement outside the courtroom. Captain Gatso, the leader of the anti-photo enforcement vigilante organization known as Motorists Against Detection (MAD), cited the M11 camera as evidence that officials were engaging in "fleecing, not policing" and proceeded to use a heavy truck to yank the device off of its mounting in late 2002.
